SHORTY'S CHOICE (R. Sue-San) was slow into stride.
When questioned as to the seemingly disappointing performance of KBENGAL, App. K. Manoukian stated that the only explanation he could offer for the horse's poor run was that it raced flat.

When questioned as to the disappointing performance of DEXTERITY Jockey M. Morris stated that the filly would be better suited in races over a longer distance than today's event. Jockey Morris said that when he placed the filly under pressure leaving the 600m DESTERITY responded to his riding. Trainer P. Inwood agreed with the comments of Jockey Morris. A post-race veterinary examination of DEXTERITY did not reveal any significant abnormalities.
When questioned as to the performance of ALWAYS PERSIANGULF the only explanation Jockey M. Hart could tender for the gelding's disappointing performance was that ALWAYS PERSIANGULF had a tendency to race greenly throughout the event. Trainer P. A post-race veterinary examination of ALWAYS PERSIANGULF did not reveal any abnormalities.

Jockey K. Ballard was unable to explain the disappointing performance of SUPERTAX. Jockey Ballard said that when placed under pressure leaving the 400 metres SUPERTAX failed to respond to his riding. Trainer Mrs D. Ballard agreed that the performance of SUPERTAX was disappointing, however she intended to continue with the gelding's preparation and undertook to advise stewards if anything was amiss with SUPERTAX in the days following the event. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding did not reveal any abnormalities.
A post-race veterinary examination of THE BEAST (D. Ballard) revealed that the gelding was lame in the off foreleg. Trainer Mrs D. Ballard was advised that she must provide a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to THE BEAST being permitted to race again.
