Race 1: Skilled QTIS Two- Year- Old Maiden Handicap - 1250 metres:
1st - HONEST ACTION 2nd - BURDEKIN STAR 3rd - HARRY THE WARRIOR 4th - FAT PANTS
On jumping away HONEST ACTION (App B. Swaffer) and BURDEKIN STAR (S. Pawsey) came together.
Race 2: Be Air Maiden Plate - 960 metres:
1st - KING AMONG KINGS 2nd - BE GRAND 3rd - NOT A TULLY 4th - WILL HE FLY
On jumping away FIVE SIXTY (S. Pawsey) reared then jumped outwards, resulting in the gelding losing ground. Trainer Mr G. Purdy was advised that a warning would be placed on the barrier manners of FIVE SIXTY.
Shortly after the start KING AMONG KINGS (K. Rockett) was tightened for room between DART HEAD (R. Ryan) and SPOT THE DRAGON (K. Stone) which shifted out.
Rounding the home turn NOT A TULLY (F. Edwards) had a tendency to hang out.
Following the running of this race jockey R. Ryan reported that he had severe pain in his right shoulder and was unable to fulfil his further two engagements. Replacements for jockey Ryan were made as such. Race 5 NORTHERN THEATRE (M. Elliott), Race 6 MASTER HUGH (K. Rockett). A public announcement was made to this affect. Jockey R. Ryan will be notified that he must produce a medical certificate of fitness before riding again.
Race 3: IGA Bentley Village Class 3 Plate - 960 metres:
1st - SUN WARRIOR 2nd - SEEK DE FORTUNE 3rd - DISCOVER THE GOLD 4th - WHAT SAY YOU
Race 4: Century Cranes Class B Handicap (1) - 1250 metres:
1st - DANE WILL DO 2nd - DRAGON KEEPER 3rd - GUMLY'S BLU BOY 4th - FATAL AFFAIR
FATAL AFFAIR (S. Pawsey) began awkwardly.
MICHALAK (A. Merritt) was slow to begin.
When questioned as to the disappointing performance of TIBOOBURRA EMMA, jockey M. Atkinson stated that the mare had failed to handle the slow track conditions. Trainer Mrs J. Atkinson agreed with the comments of jockey Atkinson. A post - race veterinary examination of TIBOOBURRA EMMA did not reveal any abnormalities.
Race 5: Brothers Cairns Cup Class B Handicap (2) - 1250 metres
1st - NORTHERN THEATRE 2nd - PEMBERTON 3rd - SAQUARRA 4th - THAT'S WHAT I WANT
THAT'S WHAT I WANT (A. Merritt) made the turn near the 900 metres awkwardly shifting wider on the track, resulting in THAT'S WHAT I WANT (A. Merritt) becoming unbalanced on the heels of EXCITING ERA (W. D' Avila).
Near the 900 metre turn SAQUARRA (App B. Swaffer) shifted out and bumped TUPPENY'S OPINION (F. Edwards). As a consequence SAQUARRA (App B. Swaffer) became unbalanced and lost ground.
THAT'S WHAT I WANT (A. Merritt), TUPPENY'S OPINION (F. Edwards) and HUSK'N'HEARTBREAK (N. Bin Yadi) all raced wide throughout.
Race 6: Plasta Masta Class 6 Plate - 1250 metres
1st - GREEN LANTERN 2nd - MEEZAAH 3rd - RATTUS CONATUS 4th - CAMPHOR
PHYSICS (G. Kliese) began awkwardly resulting in the gelding being slow away.
GRAND ASSASSIN (App B. Swaffer), MEEZAAH (W. D'Avila), JIFF (F. Edwards) and STARTUS (M. Elliott) all raced wide throughout.
Apprentice B. Swaffer the rider of GRAND ASSASSIN reported that the gelding failed to handle the slow track conditions and further added that when he placed GRAND ASSASSIN under pressure near the 600 metres the gelding failed to respond to his riding.
