Bougoure colt to test favourite

Trainer Dan Bougoure is hopeful of bringing rival Whiskey Allround's unbeaten run to an end with his promising youngster Tip Top Tiger at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Tip Top Tiger, a son of champion sire Fastnet Rock, was bought at the Sydney Easter sales for $420,000 by Sydney property developer Steve Gillard.

Tip Top Tiger was an impressive barrier trial winner at Doomben on Tuesday when he easily accounted for Michael Lakey's Moon Candy.

The colt was ridden in the barrier trial by Michael Cahill who has stuck with him for his debut.

Bougoure knows it will take a special effort to bring him about Whiskey Allround's downfall but he's eagerly awaiting the clash of the two-year-olds.

"He goes pretty good. He won his trial well but the time wasn't flash as I was always going to run him tomorrow," Bougoure said.

"Everything he has done has impressed me and he's nominated for the Blue Diamond and Golden Slipper next year.

"There's no substitute for race experience so Whiskey Allround will be hard to beat and Patinack Farm's, So Cheeky, has a lot of speed.

"Hopefully my colt can get a nice run off the pace."

Bougoure is not yet ready to put Tip Top Tiger, who was bred by Three Bridges Thoroughbreds in Victoria, in the same category as his former star sprinter winner Falvelon.

"Horses like Falvelon don't come along every day but this bloke is pretty good," he said.

The Tony Gollan-trained Whiskey Allround romped home by more than eight lengths in his debut at Toowoomba last month before producing another dominant display to win at Eagle Farm on October 6.

Meanwhile Bold Glance will be floated to Melbourne next Wednesday for the G3 tab.com.au Stakes (1400m) on Derby day at Flemington next month.

Trainer Norm Hilton won the same race with Poor Judge two years ago when it was known as the Chatham Stakes.

Bold Glance returned to his best form last start for apprentice Kirk Matheson who has retained the ride in the Blackwater Quarries Handicap.

"He's back in distance slightly but he hasn't raced for three weeks and has freshened nicely," Hilton said.

"I think 1400 metres is about his best distance and I'm taking him down myself by float next week."

Hilton will consider extending Bold Glance's campaign in Melbourne to include the G1 Emirates Stakes  (1600m) at Flemington a week after Derby Day if her performs well.
