Jockey Lacey Morrison’s riding career completes a full circle tomorrow when she makes her comeback to Clifford Park riding.
Morrison’s successful return to the saddle has brought her back to where her record-breaking career began as she looks to re-establish herself in south east Queensland racing.
Morrison will complete two rides at Gatton tomorrow before partnering Not Without Sin ($3 fav) for trainer Neville Saunders in the Ivans Container Hire QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate 1100m at Clifford Park.
Her Clifford Park appearance will be Morrison’s first in about six years.
Her career looked to be over after she suffered serious head injuries in a 2008 Ipswich race fall.
Morrison then switched riding for stewarding. But with the competition bug never really leaving her system Morrison grabbed her opportunity to return to the race saddle in April after gaining a medical clearance.
Morrison’s carefully planned riding comeback included a stint in North Queensland where she set about re-honing her skills.
Her race wins included this month’s Cairns Newmarket aboard outsider Released.
After making a permanent return to Toowoomba last week, Morrison is 100 per cent focussed on making the most of her second chance at race riding.
“Everything has gone well in the comeback for me so far,” Morrison said yesterday.
“Making a permanent return to Toowoomba is the next stage.
“My time up north was great.
“I’m good mates with Jay Morris who trains at Mt Isa and it was always my plan to restart up there, a little out of the spotlight.
“I’ve been working on things like my weight and timing and I was lucky enough to have some success along the way as well.
“I realise returning to South East Queensland is another step up and it’s going to be a challenge.
“But I’m just loving having a second chance at riding.”
