Startsmeup Magic Millions bound

Holidaying trainer Gillian Heinrich appears to have found the key to Startsmeup who booked a Magic Millions Cup start in January with another impressive display at Doomben on Saturday.

Startsmeup,  ridden by Damian Browne, gave his backers a few moments of concern when held up for a run before powering home for a half length win over dead-heaters Mr Orient and Onetimebandcamp in the Coke Zero Handicap  (1350m).

Heinrich, who is taking a break in Germany, has changed Startsmeup's training routine since she took over the  gelding's preparation in December.

The five-year-old has been given a lot of sharp sprint work over short trips in trackwork which is reaping rewards on the track with three wins from five starts this campaign.

Heinrich is expected to resist chasing spring spoils interstate with Startsmeup and instead is expected to give him a short break before aiming for the Magic Millions Cup (1400m) at the Gold Coast in January.

Browne was having his first ride on Startsmeup since the pair finished second to Spirit Of Boom in the Magic Millions Cup last January.

Suspended jockey Jeff Lloyd has been Startsmeup's regular rider this campaign having won on the son of Danzero first up at Ipswich in June.

The former South African rider also partnered Startsmeup when the pair finished third in the Listed Winter Stakes (1400m) at Warwick Farm last month.

Startsmeup, a multiple G2 and G3 placegetter, has now earned more than $573,000 in prizemoney after taking his record to six wins and 12 placings from 29 starts.

Browne again showed why he's regarded as one of the best riders in Brisbane with a patient display aboard Startsmeup who looked in trouble when crowded for room at the 300 metres.

"We were in a tight spot for a few strides but thankfully the run came and he picked up well and sprinted quickly through the gap," Browne said.

Meanwhile the old firm of trainer Kelso Wood and jockey Chris Munce struck again when Someday won the Mount Franklin Lightly Sparkling Handicap (1200m).

Someday, a son of Falvelon, powered home to down I'm Cool by a half head with a further 2-3/4 lengths to third placegetter, Miss Bradbury.

The Wood-Munce combination have been highly successful over the past year culminating with Sizzling's victory in the G2 Sires Produce Stakes (1400m ) and  G1 T J Smith Stakes (1600m) at Eagle Farm in June.
