Industry
Thoroughbred racing in Queensland has had some of the greatest
performers heralded to the sport. Names highlighted in the
Queensland Hall of Fame include Bernborough, Gunsynd, Mick Dittman,
George Moore, Jim Atkins, Fred Best and Bruce McLachlan.
Stars of today include Shoot Out, Phelan Ready, Albert the Fat,
Chris Munce, Jim Byrne, Alan Bailey, Robert Heathcote and Liam
Birchley. These stars are just some of the participants and
stakeholders competing at some of our 108 tracks used by 124 race
clubs. These race clubs conduct some of the most iconic events
not just in Queensland but also Australia.
The Stradbroke Handicap, Doomben 10000, Magic Millions, Cairns
Amateurs, Birdsville Cup and a host of many country cups and events
throughout Queensland form part of this iconic list.
These races and race meetings make up just some of the 720 race
meetings and 4728 races conducted in Queensland. Of these, 326
meetings and 1675 races are conducted at country and regional areas
at non-TAB level. Over 46,000 starters compete at these events to
try and win they share of over $75 million worth of prizemoney and
bonus incentives.
Racing Queensland strives to further enhance the thoroughbred
product in Queensland, so the stars of tomorrow can strive to live
up to the glory of the stars of the past.
