Bargain buy Shoot Out notched a fourth Group 1 win at Randwick on Saturday, September 22 when he finished too well for his rivals in the George Main Stakes 1600m.
At his first run since running second to More Joyous in the Doncaster Handicap in April, Shoot Out proved too classy for a quality line up of gallopers.
In a thrilling finish, Shoot Out responded to the urgings of Hugh Bowman and reeled in $2 million plus earning stablemate Rangirangdoo to win strongly.
The rest of the field including Group 1 winners Danleigh, Secret Admirer, Yosei and Quintessential and highly rated youngster All Too Hard were no match for the classy winner despite all having had runs under their belt.
Shoot Out, now the winner of nine races and 10 times placed from 30 runs, has earned Queenslander owners Graham and Linda Huddy over $2.84 million and that figure looks destined to rise with more Group 1s in both Sydney and Melbourne on his agenda over the coming weeks.
A half brother to the WA Oaks winner Cassandara Shadow, Shoot Out was purchased by the Huddy family from the Oaklands Stud draft at the 2008 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. The star galloper was bred in Queensland by Neville Stewart.
The six-year-old boosted his first up record to three wins from six starts and his record at Randwick to four wins from seven outings, three wins at Group 1 level.
And trainer Chris Waller is looking forward to the upcoming starts for Shoot Out including the Group 1 Epsom Handicap, which will most likely be his next start.
"I think he has got a pretty good weight in the Epsom considering his class," Waller said.
"More Joyous is the top weight and compressed them a little which has helped him and I reckon there will be a few below him who will be worried if he is going to run or not."
Winning rider Hugh Bowman described riding Shoot Out as a "priviledge."
"As the line drew closer, I drew further away. They are two wonderful horses and it is a privilege to ride him."
"He's a great (fresh) horse," Bowman added. "This is his trip and I think sometimes we get carrried away wasting runs over shorter trips."
"Chris has done a great job and it is a credit to the whole team," the star jockey added.
Shoot Out is one of two group winners from four runners to date for the winning Pentire mare Pentamerous.
A half sister to the Craiglee Stakes winner Native Jazz, Pentamerous is not only the dam of the four time Group 1 winner Shoot Out but also the WA Oaks winner Cassandara Shadow.
Both Pentamerous and Cassandara Shadow are both now in the ownership of the Huddy family.
After missing in her first season at stud in 2010, Cassandara Shadow recently produced a three quarter brother to Shoot Out by High Chaparral on August 27.
Pentamerous meanwhile has a two-year-old filly by Encosta de Lago and a yearling colt by High Chaparral - a full brother to Shoot Out.
She was served again last season by High Chaparral and is due to foal in October.
